Give your clients a private place for their recovery
For treatment centres, recovery charities, drug and alcohol services, sober living houses and peer groups. There's nothing for you to run.
What you get
Nothing to set up
No accounts, staff logins or systems on your side. We send you a licence key, and you pass it on to clients.
No client data, for anyone
Steady doesn't send client data to us or to you. Everything stays on the client's own device.
Priced by people, not places
Each licence covers one district. The price depends on how many people you support there in a year, however many sites you have. You tell us the number. Steady never counts anyone.
Your service, in Support
Your licence key adds your service's name and phone number to Support, next to the helplines.
Clients keep everything
Clients who enter your key get everything in Steady Plus. They keep it, even after your licence ends.
Fits any approach
Twelve Step, self-management, or both. Clients choose, and can change their mind later.
Support on every screen
Helplines and the emergency number are always one tap away, even when the app is locked.
Cards to hand out
Print our A6 client cards. They say how to get Steady and where to find help.
Simple to buy
One yearly licence. We accept invoices and purchase orders.
How to start
-
Email us your service's name and the number clients should see.
-
We send you a licence key. Share it with your clients, for example by email or text.
-
In Settings, clients tap Enter a licence key and paste it in. Your service's name and number then show in Support.
Free 3-month pilot
Early organisations can try Steady free for 3 months. The email that opens asks for the two things we need to make your licence key.
A note for your data protection lead
Steady doesn't send client data to us or to you. We don't receive, store or process any of it, so there's no client data for a data processing agreement to cover for the app itself.
The licence key holds only your service's name and phone number, and it's checked on the client's device. Please make your own check, as you would for any app you suggest to clients. Our privacy policy and terms of use have the details.

Questions organisations ask
Setting up and data
Do we need to set anything up?
No. There's nothing to install, no accounts and no staff logins. We send you a licence key. Share it with your clients, for example by email or text, and hand out our client cards.
Clients download Steady, then in Settings they tap Enter a licence key and paste the key in. Your service's name and phone number then show in Support.
What do clients need?
An Android phone or a Windows computer. iPhone is planned. Steady works offline, so no internet connection is needed once it's installed.
Steady is for adults aged 18 and over. Setup asks for age, and anyone under 18 is shown support made for young people instead.
Is it accessible?
Steady has three text sizes (Standard, Large and Larger), and light and dark mode. It works from a 320px-wide screen at every text size, and everything works from the keyboard. It's written in plain English, with short sentences.
An independent accessibility audit isn't done yet. We'd welcome feedback from your service users. Our information pack has the details.
Do we need a data processing agreement?
Not for the app itself. Steady doesn't send client data to us or to you, so we don't process any client data on your behalf.
Your data protection lead can read our privacy policy and make their own check, as they would for any app you suggest to clients.
Can staff see how a client is doing?
Only if the client chooses to show them, on their own device. Nothing is reported back to you.
Can anyone see which service a client uses?
Not from the lock screen. Clients can set a PIN, so Steady locks after they've been away. Support still works there, without your service's name and number, so someone picking up the phone can't see which service the client uses.
Once Steady is unlocked, your service shows in Support, after the emergency number.
We can't see it either. Your key is checked on the client's device, and nothing is reported back.
Safety and safeguarding
What about safeguarding?
Steady isn't monitored. Nobody sees what a client enters, so it can't raise an alert. It must never be part of a risk plan in place of human contact.
Support is one tap away on every screen, including the lock screen. It shows the emergency number first, then helplines for the client's country.
Our information pack has more on safety and safeguarding.
Is Steady a medical app?
No. Steady supports recovery. It isn't medical treatment or a medical device, and it doesn't give medical advice.
Keep your doctor, drug and alcohol service, sponsor or recovery worker in the loop. Talk to a doctor before you stop or cut down alcohol or other drugs, because stopping some of them suddenly can be dangerous.
Licences and paying
How many clients does a licence cover?
The number of people you choose when you buy it, based on how many you support in a year, in one district (a local council area). It doesn't matter how many sites or houses you have there. An organisation that works in several districts needs a licence for each.
Steady never counts anyone, so we go by the number you give us. If you grow, move up a size when you renew.
What happens when our licence ends?
Clients who have entered your key keep everything. New clients can enter it until the date on your licence.
Can we try it first?
Yes. Early organisations can have a free 3-month pilot. Email hello@lightkeeperstudio.co.uk.
How do we pay?
By invoice, once a year. We accept purchase orders.
